And that's without the additional funding! Hopefully the liens could be built even quicker than that and maybe even a few extras too!

What happened was that the private Colleges (notable Harvard, MIT, BC, BU) never were in any sort of agreement with the 2024 folks, so the proposed the stadiums and the Colleges had no idea that they would be hosting. The Mayor of Boston has no leverage over the schools to actually agree to the bid because only BU, and Harvard, BC Med. are actually within Boston, and the Governor already hit the bid with the refusal to expand the Convention Center.

Atlanta had almost every venue in place with few exceptions and hosted a very profitable Olympics. The glitches were minor, but the European press made a bigger deal out of some of them than there should have been due to sour grapes. It was actually a pretty great Olympics and the city did a fantastic job...I certainly wouldn't think that just any US city could pull it off simply because Atlanta did.

I know it's difficult for some people, but Atlanta some credit where it is due.

the Profit of Atlanta's Olympics was $10,000,000 dollars, total public spending was $500,000,000.
Security alone in London 2012 (post 9/11) was 2 billion pounds or ($3.3 billion).
Boston would lose a ton of money in security, unless the bid will pay for that (it won't) I oppose it.
edit: security is not included in Atlanta's numbers, those Olympics lost money

I don't think there's even one subway line u/c in LA.

There are two. Purple Line extension (HRT) and Regional Connector (LRT).

Technically much of the Crenshaw Line (LRT) is subway too.

So yeah, there are subways under construction here.

And the expo line phase 2 is still under construction. LA is having the largest public transit boom in the country. That was a pretty uninformed post!

NOLA is trying to be "smart" b/c the Expo and Gold Line extensions are purely surface or elevated lines, and they are LRT, which makes it not count for some - so they definitely aren't subways.

But like I said, there are two fully underground lines UC and one semi underground line UC, and one of them is an HRT line, so it also checks that box.

Chicago makes a lot of sense. Transit infrastructure is there already and existing venues and potential sites for additional needed venues are all within a fairly tight and accessible radius including the waterfront.

But who wants to pay for such a boondoggle?
