Anyone who has been following the US Olympic bid for hosting the 2024 Olympics has likely heard that many Bostonian's are giving the cold shoulder to hosting the event which is making the IOC a little less patient with the organizations that were promoting the idea, and getting Boston onboard with it. If Boston's pitch falls through, that may be LA's gain for getting the bid option back.
Sounds like good news for Boston and bad news for LA
Why is it bad news for LA? Most people here seemed pumped about the bid, and the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles actually turned a profit. Its much cheaper to host the Games when you already have more than enough venues.
If LA hypothetically won a 2024 bid, most of the money spent would be to improve transportation infrastructure, specifically throwing more money at rail projects that are already in the pipeline to accelerate their timelines and complete them by 2024.
I'd rather it go to another country than see it go to LA again. Why repeat them? There are so many other cities here capable of hosting an Olympics.
This.. It wouldn't make sense for LA to host again when there are so many American cities that are just as capable of hosting and deserve a chance, especially on the East Coast.. LA already had its chance..

True, but the economic factors that allowed the 84 games (and 96 games in Atlanta) to turn a profit no longer exist. I cannot find the exact number, but the IOC now expects the host city/country to pickup the tab for pretty much everything. Without the ability to allow corporations to pick up the tab, most of the cost will be shifted to taxpayers. Seeing as how Los Angelenos are not willing to shell out money for a new NFL stadium, I would imagine it would be a tough sell.
