If you had to live in one of these two cities for one year outside, "butt naked", which city would you choose ? Enough said... Even the homeless understand that Houston's climate is superior overall to that of Chicago's or any other upper Midwestern city...
Butt naked? There would be nowhere to run, nowhere to hide!
Must really gall a lot of posters that the poll is pretty much even. Guess there is no 'obvious' superiority that everyone 'knows', only personal preference.
Is it really that difficult for some people to wrap their heads around the fact that many people prefer cold over heat?

Humans wear clothes and live in shelters. We can live literally anywhere on Earth with solid ground, except for perhaps the highest mountain peaks.
In any case, humans would barely be able to survive naked outdoors in Houston winters, either. Nighttime temps in the mid-40s can easily induce hypothermia. One of the most wickedly cold experiences I ever recall was an uncharacteristically cold January day in Key West when it didn't get above 55ºF. Wasn't prepared with the proper clothing and spent the entire day shivering indoors.

The point of the OP was to compare Houston's summer to Chicago's winter. Houston's summer with out a doubt would be more survivable with limited resources. There are also times during each day in the summer here that are in many cases pleasant which is rare in northern winters without adequate resources. Lets face it the Moon itself is survivable if you have enough resources and equipment.
As far as your shivering in Key West, well another warm body would have taken care of that just fine
Houston's summers are definitely much more tolerable than Chicago's winters. It's really not a comparison. A better comparison would be Chicago winters vs. Phoenix summers.
Chicago can be pretty bad in the winter but I'd wager their "rough season/s" cancel one another out. Houston's summers with the high humidity levels can feel like they're in excess of 100ºF so whoever thinks these kinds of temps are "tolerable" is saying that with some sort of personal opinion implied...
Houston and most of the Southeast isn't Sydney, Australia or San Diego or Barcelona or somewhere even warm like Montevideo or Mexico City. They are often brutally muggy in the summer so you aren't really upgrading by moving to the South, rather trading an often "tough winter" for a "tough summer". Just think about that...
