Chicago winters by far. Heres why: you can dress for the cold, enjoy winter sports, and the air is dry feeling. Plus, there's those of us who take advantage of slick roads to have some fun drifting our cars around corners.

2-1 Americans prefer hot to cold. Cities like San Diego, Tampa, Orlando are top cities for those who listed hot as their preference. For those who listed cold, Denver, Seattle, and Portland were their top favorites (which is not as cold as Chicago).

Blacks then Hispanics then Whites are more likely to prefer a hot climate. Probably due to skin sensitivity to the sun. Blacks obviously don't burn in the sun.
hahahaha

Are you being serious right now?

Much more serious than your comment about drifting your car around corners.

Houston summers are not all that bad. Chicago winters remind me of Siberia!

Look at it this way - if you walk home drunk from a bar in Houston tonight and decide to "rest" on a bench, you will wake up sweaty and perhaps have a few mosquito bites. Do that in Chicago in February, and you will almost certainly die.

Forget "better living" and just focus on "living".

Pfft, talk about a liar.

The poll shows two things: Some like it hot; some like it cold. The difference is far less than the trolls would like us to believe.

Also, people move for jobs/economy. It has been proven time and time again via polls and research. The only people that consistently move south are OLD. Like, retired. Wrinkly. One foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel. The southern migration is due to jobs, just like the northern migration that preceeded it and wherever people flock in the future (right now: North Dakota, the coldest winter state in the lower 48, also has the most in-migration in the country).

Florida has no jobs, and it's the third largest state. North Dakota on the other hand had no people before, so it's easy for it to have the highest in-migration rate however Florida gets more people period.

Look at the Pew Research Study I linked to, 2 to 1 Americans prefer hot, with those cities being SanDiego, Tampa, Orlando in that order (Tampa is tied with San Diego). For the 1/3 of Americans who prefer cold, the list is Denver, Seattle and Portland. Not really "cold" cities in the same vain as Chicago.

But enjoy your state, someone has to.

Most Americans Love it Hot: Most Like It Hot | Pew Research Center

The City Data poll results are a fine example of how CD cannot be used to represent the larger American public.

I thought this thread was Houston v. Chicago. What's with all the posts about North Dakota, Florida, Wisconsin, Georgia, etc.? People, please stay on topic!

I've been in Chicago in the bitterest winter weather and in Houston in the summer. I'll take Chicago winters over Houston summers. When it's bitter cold, you can keep adding layers of clothing to stay warm. When it's steaming hot, you can only take off so much to get comfortable.

I'd rather do Chicago winters. But I don't mind either. Be a man (or woman) and dress up for either one and don't be stupid and be unprepared while you're in the middle of either a Chicago winter or a Houston summer.
