He's referring to the height and size of the dome.

Let's stop pretending Salesforce Tower is so much taller than Comcast Innovation & Technology Center when in reality they're nearly the same height. Wilshire Grand is the worst offender definitely. It's actual roof height is about 830 feet. Then there is a metal/glass "fin" which brings it's height to 934 feet tall. Then there is a 166 foot tall thin spire which brings it's total height to 1,100 FT tall.

Salesforce Tower on the other end has a roof height of 912 FT tall. Then the mechanical penthouse brings the height to 970 FT tall. Lastly, there is then a 115 FT "open air metal screen wall" which brings the total height to 1,070 FT.

Lastly, Comcast Innovation & Technology Center has a roof height of 911 FT tall. Then the mechanical penthouse brings the height to 995 FT tall. Lastly there is then a 126 FT "architectural lantern" which brings the total height to 1,121 FT.

Both towers are also 60 floors, so there is no difference there. CITC is a much bulkier building than ST as well. ST is only 1.4 million square feet with all office space and ground floor retail.

Salesforce Tower

CITC is 1.7 million square feet with 1.33 million square feet of office space, and the remainder is a 222 room hotel, ground floor retail, and a rooftop restaurant with 360 degree views of the city.

http://corporate.comcast.com/images/...TED-2.2016.pdf

So they're about the same height realistically. But CITC is bigger, and mixed-use which means it will be livelier at all hours.

CITC also meets the street better than Salesforce in my opinion. It's entrances to the office and hotel portions are grand. I also love the outdoor glass elevators on the western side for the hotel:

http://corporate.comcast.com/images/...rance-2014.jpg

Salesforce's street presence is certainly more bland... but I do love how the tower has an entrance onto the rooftop park of the Transbay Terminal:

Salesforce Tower

Lastly, while they're both superb designs, I do like the look of CITC better than Salesforce.

CITC:

ST:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/hines-asset...20160310151202

Either way, I wouldn't try to brag about height over CITC for Salesforce. They're both about the same roof height.... and what really matters, which is architectural height and which is what the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habit measures buildings by, CITC is 51 FT taller.

Lastly, Philadelphia is already moving on to the next Supertall. The tallest tower in the new planned Schuylkill Yards development at 3101 Market Street is set to reach a height of 1,095 FT tall with a roof height of 1,025 FT and a 75 FT architectural crown. The tower will be 70 floors and likely a mix of office space and hotel space.

Not much construction in Center City? Hmmm, when is the last time you were here? During the recession? There is a ton of construction going on in Center City and quite a few towers going up. There are cranes pretty much everywhere you look. There is a lot of smaller 4-10 floor developments happening all through the fringes of Center City as well. Then of course, there quite a few towers going up in University City.

Of course San Francisco is building a lot, and the towers in general are usually taller than the ones going up in Philly, but I don't think the amount of projects happening would be totally noticeable to the difference when walking around in each city respectively. Pretty cool fact that every neighborhood in Center City right now has at least one high rise being built in it.

Don't remember as much. It's a relative term. Last time I was there was for a weekend in February this year. There was a notable amount of construction, but SF downtown seemed to have something every few blocks.

You can see in the diagram Salesforce has the most sustained height with no spire. CITI is the ugliest of the 3.
SF has a 900 footer that'll start well before shuylkill, and that project is very long term who knows what'll happen.

The recent discussion about Salesforce and Comcast Innovation Tower and quibbling about size well I don't know . Salesforce is being erected so technically it is an erection . It kinda looks like a phallic symbol , maybe yes . I think it needs a condom's over it . So Philly has a bigger one !!!!
