And if the trend keeps going for 20 years, we may see reincarnations and the dead rising from graves!

Pretty impressive for America!

Richmond went 38 days without a homicide, but has had two within the last five days to up its total to 71/31.84. The City had twelve murders in September and entered October with 63 on the year, but the pace has slowed considerably with just eight murders since...

Norfolk is at 31/12.65...

Why are Montreal's numbers so low? Is it the culture that's responsible for those numbers? Seems like Quebec is very safe in terms of violent crime

CDMX: 808/9.05
Bogota: 836/10.35
Medellin: 497/20.02
Cali: 903/37.61
Tijuana: 1510/69.40 (Jesus Christ)

IMO - Better culture and values (not everyone for themselves), more community-oriented, investment into schools, investment into infrastructure, great QOL, reasonable COL, no guns on the streets, and the list goes on.

Wealth and separation from the drug trade, a functional government.

Canadian cities in general are quite safe. It's a functional government that has a good social welfare network in regards to addressing poverty, decent public schools throughout including poor neighborhoods, low cost higher education, and a national healthcare program. It also has fairly stringent gun control laws with a government that has the means and capacity to enforce such rules.

Pretty much...I believe that Halifax is the bigger Canadian City/area that comes the closest to US type of numbers and I believe that it is still quite low.

Halifax is actually quite low, and generally in Canada the rate goes down as you go east and rises as you go west, and then drops a bit again as you reach the west coast.

The highest murder rate among major Canadian cities is Edmonton Alberta. It's between 4 and 5 per 100k. Second is Winnipeg Manitoba which is between 3 and 4.

In total Edmonton has had about 40 murders this year. Winnipeg, a slightly smaller city has had about 25.

Toronto the biggest city has the most with about 55 but that makes for a lower rate because it has 2.8 million people.

Canada's capital Ottawa just had its 13th murder of the year. It has about 950,000 people.

My city (Gatineau) which sits right next to Ottawa across the river has 280,000 people and we've had one murder this year.
