likewise.. Live in Austin, visited Greenville regularly - had a friend who went to Bob Jones University who I visited regularly when I lived in Atlanta. That plus I had family in Greensboro NC and had to pass through Greenville pretty often as well.

the most hilarious thing that I've seen on this forum is while claiming to live in Clemson, Gaylord suggested SEC college towns as the best football college towns on a topic about that.

He never mentioned Clemson or why he didn't consider Clemson a big football college town. I would expect somebody who lived in Clemson to address why they didn't think Clemson stacked up.

sounds like he never left the house if he lived in Clemson. what is this football you speak of in Clemson. you must mean futbol CV.

i never noticed that gigantic stadium with a larger frontprint than the 'downtown' of little ol Clemson, CV.

if you do a Google news search on Clemson, nearly 100 percent of the articles is about the football team.

As a whole, the SEC rules all. I'm not sure if the "futbol" comment was meant to be racist, but I'm a huge college football fan not so much soccer. Went to UT, but I am very familiar about the program Dabo has built. I also didn't mention UT as among the biggest CFB towns even though I went there when we were actually good. See, I'm not biased like that.

And not surprised that a Google search on Clemson would pop up only football articles. That school isn't exactly known for it's academics. Well, to be fair, most South Carolina schools aren't. Anyways, carry on, enjoy the weekend fellas!!

I'm sure you do think it is racist rather than the Spanish word for soccer.

The Spanish expression for football is futbol Americano. I'm surprised a person saying Clemson doesn't measure up doesn't know this.

By the way, Clemson has won two natties in soccer aka futbol and made two more natties.

Setting aside the college rankings discussion, which is similar to sports fan trash talk, Clemson has a nicer campus than UT and unique location for college, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge right next to a lake, surrounded by the largest college experimental & recreation forest next to a university in the country.

Clemson undoubtedly has the better football team, but what would be the Clemson equivalent of this?

Clemson has a rare books collection I believe. That's pretty common with university libraries.

It doesn't look like the OP was planning to go to college. Doing a deep dive comparison of Clemson and Texas's academics is gonna be irrelevant to most people considering these two cities for relocation. Most adults are not gonna leave work , strap on a backpack and go frolick on a college campus.

Clemson has a lot of history because the campus is located on John C Calhoun's plantation. The mansion, Fort Hill, is still on campus right up the hill from the football stadium. John C was vice president and lived at Fort Hill much of his tenure as vice president. The mansion is white with green trim so you could say it was a White House.

Clemson has the state's botanical gardens right next to campus. There is a geology museum and an old house relocated from the Charleston area located in the gardens.

Clemson has a university golf course adjacent to the campus and next to Lake Hartwell. There is a hotel and conference center with two restaurants with a patio area overlooking the lake.

UT appears to have a nice university golf course but it located a good distance from campus. They should have located the campus out there. They are too cramped in downtown Austin.

Another thing I like about Clemson is there are dikes covered with grass along the lake. It is a nice place to walk because usually get some wind off the lake and you can see the Blue Ridge in the distance and often the train will roll by across the lake on the railroad bridge. There is a little forest nature trail along the lake that connects the dikes.

There's a beach area with docks between the dikes and another beach area across the lake at the campus outdoor recreation center. You can rent kayaks and other gear over there.

There's a marina across the lake from campus where you can rent boats and jetskis.

I've been out on the dikes when they've had row meets with 10 or more university crew teams from all over the country like Washington State. That's pretty cool. Clemson hosts the ACC rowing championship every year.

Clemson typically has a big fireworks show on July 4th at the beach areas. The dikes are packed out with people and a there are bunch of boats out on the water with different color lights. Kind of has a Roaring 20's Great Gatsby vibe to it.

I describe Clemson as a mountain lake resort university.

I live in Austin and have only been to Greenville 4 times and never stayed longer than a week, so I don't know Greenville as well as Austin, but Greenville is not in Austin's league in terms of quantity and variety of amenities. Greenville is such more like Waco than Austin. Now if only Waco had a waterfall downtown... ;-)
