Michigan kinda sucks, it just isnt as modern and up to date with the times when it comes to a lot of communities. The nightlife also isn’t that great, even Grand Rapids and Detroit still have a backwater feel to them after living in the Bay Area for so long. Not somewhere I’d spend my 20’s after visiting a lot over the past year.
Illinois does have Chicago which is awesome, but both states also have income tax which again factors heavily into my take home pay and disposable income when it is a % being taken off of a SF rate salary.
Michigan has nothing going for it. Detroit is a big sinkhole (and headache) for the state.
Illinois surprisingly won the lottery with Chicago. If not for Chicago, Illinois would be just another impoverished Rust Belt farm state--like Kansas-on-the-Lake.
After a bunch more research, I've decided on Brickell, now I just need to find a nice apartment/condo to rent. Are there any better resources other than zillow for the area?
I live on The Beach, and can offer this as an option to consider: Get an inexpensive citi-bike monthly subscription. From Brickell, you can ride the metromover to the Omni station for free and then take citi-bike across the Venetian Causeway to all that South Beach has to offer. You won't be left wondering where to park, or paying for it, and Miami Beach has an ever growing network of green painted bike lanes. The Venetian is also a beautiful and safe residential causeway for cyclists.
