Sacramento is one of the places my wife wouldn't like the weather in the summer OR winter. So will have to choose a convenient getaway with nice weather for multiple seasons of the year.

Sacramento: Spring/Fall
Los Angeles: Rest of the year

Orlando--June to September, when Florida is at its most scenic, and California is at its driest and ugliest.

Tyson's Corner, VA--Rest of year, because it's incredibly safe and clean, has a rapidly growing skyline, awesome transit, and very close to DC and the airport.

Evanston, IL, near Lake Michigan would be one location, and the other could be in New England or perhaps Portland/Seattle..

I like cold winters, so living in NE/Chicago would be perfectly fine...

Vermont - June to February
Tucson - March to May

I love Vermont for seasonal changes, equally love summer, fall, and winter. Spring in New England compared to other parts of the country quite frankly sucks. Lots of freeze/thaw cycles, it arrives very late, the actual spring season last a few weeks in May, and then summer rushes in. I could easily skip all that and enjoy spring in southern Arizona. I love early spring in the Sonoran desert when it blooms and Tucson has the sweet smell of orange blossoms in the air. I definitely couldn't do Tucson in summer though and wouldn't want to miss fall or winter in VT.

Waitsfield VT - July through early March
Roanoke VA - mid-March through June

Same concept as Desert SW but swap Sonoran Spring for Appalachian Spring and much easier to drive between both locations. I picked waitsfield because I really like the Mad River Valley.
