n.y.c., and l.a. are the only trillion dollar metros. all the other top 10 are effectively tied for 3rd.
anyone committing d.c. to #4 or s.f. to #5 are just being homers: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...n_areas_by_GDP
theres 333 billion dollars separating #2 and #3; and, 333 billion dollars separating #3 and #10.
Interesting stats! Yeah, Chicago is #3 in GDP, but as you mention, the gap between NYC/LA and Chicago is massive. I always say, Chicago as much as I love it, is definitely a tier below NYC/LA.
1. New York
2. Los Angeles
3. Chicago
4. Washington, D.C.
5. San Francisco
6. Atlanta
7. Boston
8. Determine the ranking: Dallas, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia, Seattle
13. Phoenix
14. Denver
Boston and it's not even close. If Boston was not in this list, I would've voted for Atlanta.
Boston has an argument for #6, but its definitely very close between Boston, Houston and Philadelphia.
They are all peer cities, so not sure what makes it "not even close"... I still put Atlanta below the 3 I mentioned above.
I voted Houston but didn't notice Boston on that list when I voted. Boston is definitely the 6th most important. Houston / Atlanta are arguable. Houston because the energy industry, Atlanta because logistics and regional importance.
6. Boston - It's critical to U.S. Eds & Meds
7. Atlanta - Gateway to and de facto capital of the southeastern U.S.; most significant media presence outside of NYC & L.A.; some significant educational & government infrastructure
8. Houston - One of the global linchpins of the energy sector
9. Philadelphia - Original legacy city; still a very large business and education hub; considerable historic infrastructure
10. Dallas - Very large metro with significant economic output
11. Seattle - Outsized representation in technology and other corporations that influence our lives daily
12. Miami - Gateway to Latin America; world-class tourist destination
OP, make a #7 thread. Boston is clearly #6. This has been determined numerous times before.
The other threads I linked to in the OP all had at least a couple days between their creations. If the thread goes inactive, maybe I’ll think of starting one for #7. Otherwise I’d like to give it a week at least.
