Inspired by both the “5 Premier Cities” in the General US thread and also the following threads from awhile back:

Battle for #2

Battle for #3

Battle for #4

Battle for #5

Assuming NYC, LA, Chicago, DC, and SF are the country’s top 5 cities at the moment (based on cultural, political, and economical importance/contribution, etc.), than which city is #6?

*The top contenders in 2009 were Boston and Houston, but a lot can change in 10 years!

Based on your criteria the 6 spot is very close for all except Seattle which is the odd one out.

I assume Boston will win this though.

I thought Miami would be the odd one out. Denver and Phoenix were two that I almost included, but figured that people could pick “other” if they feel strongly about those.

Yeah, I think they all have good arguments. It’ll be interesting to see what folks say if anyone ends up taking the bait.

I would say Boston with Philadelphia very close behind at 7 or even tied for 6 with Boston.

Either Boston or Atlanta... I'm leaning toward Atlanta though.

Boston. Huge role in education, medical research, tech, and other areas. It's also the largest depending on the measure you use.

As for Seattle, it's by far the smallest but belongs in this group due to its military role, seaports, tech leadership, global health and disease research (along with Atlanta, Boston, and others), and oversized corporate role.
