Montreal now at 8 (we're usually at 8 by June), huge spike in domestic disputes. We haven't seen a pace like this in a long time and the continued femicides happening world wide is unacceptable.
Also, some slightly positive news from Chicago, though the homicide rate remains high, February 2021 had 4 less homicides than February 2020 and March 2021, though bad, also doesn’t seem to be matching the pace last year or 2016/2017. It’s very hard to tell what the rest of the year will look like.
The rate of homicides in Philly seem to be slowing down from Jan/early feb as well.
It’s not really a positive itself considering these years will still turn out badly compared to the last 10, however it seems like the pace of homicides is starting to slow-down after a extremely bad start to the year.
The second half of 2020 was exponentially higher than usual for Portland murders as well.
Hmm - maybe dramatically slashing the police budget wasn't the best idea after all...
