What happened to them? I remember being eaten alive by them in our back yard in Miami as soon as the sun went down.

Generally speaking, pretty much all of the cities in the south/southeast are going to be more miserable than the desert cities. There’s not going to be that much distinction within those regions. When I was trucking, there was never much difference between, say, Houston or Atlanta for summer miserable feels.

Elaborate? Could also be a subjective thing. Hot and humid feels worse for me than merely...hot.

Unbearably hot.
Skin prickly hot.
I picked Phoenix because when I was in Vegas I was in vacation so I was not obliged to leave the hotel during the day.

I really like Phoenix though. The heat is the only major thing that would prevent me from considering it as a place to live

Those neurotoxic scorpions keep me out of Phoenix..

It’s hard to pick 1. I’d just have to say New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix and Tampa are all really hot. I’m sure Orlando and Miami are just as bad I just haven’t experienced their summers.

While the humidity is obviously much worse in the southeast during the summer, 110 degrees day in and day out is still 110 degrees. Even in a dry climate, that's just way too much heat to put up with for an entire summer. It is still grueling even if the air is drier. Both regions are equally unbearable during the summer months, just for different reasons.
