Feel like Cleveland is a lot more interesting. Has better museums, architecture, cultural offerings. However, the overall huge quality of life gap along with Calgary offering a lot better/more urban neighborhoods despite it’s relative newness makes this a clear win for Calgary overall. One thing Cleveland might do better in is suburbs, places like Shaker Heights or Lakewood are very eclectic, lots of turn-of-the-century homes, on street commercial areas, etc, reminds me a lot of the suburbs of cities like Boston.
This is like comparing apples with papayas. They're completely different.
Calgary is a younger, shinier, Western city; Cleveland is an older, blue-collar, Rust Belt city that still reflects its "Old World" immigrant past.
Calgary is much nicer, cleaner, wealthier, and more livable, with far better amenities. Cleveland has more character and, despite its flaws, is more interesting.
Winters are brutal in both cities, and I wouldn't want to live in either one.
Is Cleveland's weather that much better? Calgary gets a lot more sunny days.
I think you're right. Calgary gets the winter sunny days that a lot of Western cities, like Denver do. Cleveland gets what I call the Great Lakes Gray. But, as cold as Cleveland's winters are, I think Calgary's are worse.
