North Carolina, although NC is considerably more rural than GA (most rural highly populated state in the U.S.), and there is no city in NC that is comparable to Atlanta (nor are there any cities in GA that are comparable to Charlotte or Raleigh). Second-largest city in GA is Augusta and it's a bit smaller than Greensboro I think? Mountain and coastal areas of NC are also vastly larger and more majestic compared w/ GA.
GA is a little bit of AL to the west, some TN Appalachia to the far north, all of urban NC center north of the state, and mostly SC everywhere else.
NC has three areas that are a draw for folks but GA has one major one and a nice tourist town. GA doesn't have an answer for Asheville or RDU unless we break up ATL.

Georgia has emerged a a new blue state politically, while North Carolina is more purple.
Georgia was the first state to the left of center in the election, and North Carolina was the first to the right. I think that makes them both Purple.
Also, NC re-elected its Democratic governor, while the GA governor is still a quite conservative Republican.
NC voted for Obama in 2008 while GA didn't.
There's a lot of purple going on in these two states, but both of them are moving toward the Dems over time. GA has a larger black population than NC, likely making it statistically a faster process, which is causing new election laws in GA to slow that down.
Is South GA influenced by Northern Florida or is it the other way around?
I can answer this. South Georgia/North Florida is pretty much a cohesive region and people cross the state lines all the time for varying reasons. Jacksonville and Tallahassee have commuters from south Georgia counties simply because they're so close to the state line. I've seen Floridians visit attractions like Wild Adventures in South Georgia but mainly it's Georgians working or visiting Florida. Trump held a rally in South Georgia for the runoff elections and most of the audience seemed to be Floridians.
Georgia, to me, is just a more populated Alabama. Atlanta is essentially just a bigger Birmingham, they have a lot of the same typography. Share a good bit of history together. A lot of the same demographics as well
Atlanta and Birmingham haven't been comparable since 1960 and Bull Connor. There's not much resemblance between the two today.
