Right, but I'm not commenting on that at all. I am saying that unless you just ignore the evidence, and deleterious effects of climate change I do not know how anyone can pick TX with "Brighter future" as a criterion. To be clear, I love all of the US but TX is in a belt that will get hammered by these effects within most of our lifetimes. That saddens me, and makes WA the clear option regardless.
Even with climate change Texas will be fine. Humans have lived and do thrive in much hotter climates.
Thealpinist, cost is certainly a factor. But there are a lot of cheap places. Cost AND climate AND economic opportunity AND lifestyle...all factors. If Texas loses its climate advantage and the other factors are roughly equal, it'll lose some pull. Further, some of the other factors have apparently been going to the wrong way, like cost.
Do people actually believe we have 9 months of darkness here?
It's no different than people here who believe 98*F with a 60% humidity is normal weather for all of Texas.
