I'd prefer to live in Providence because (a) proximity to Boston, (b) I like its Lusophone communities, (c) lot of daytrip options including New York, Cape Cod, and Newport, and (d) I'd prefer to be in a state that hasn't been gerrymandered to return conservative majorities to the State Legislature no matter what. Milwaukee is a great city though, just one in a State that's less deserving.

If they bulldoze the Superman Building though, I'll probably switch my vote out of rage.

It gets fewer shows, for shorter runs later in tours than Hartford, Buffalo, OKC etc. not literally no broadway shows

Why would you count "Iberian peninsula" as anything other than White? That would be like only counting "non-Irish" whites as "White". Portuguese are not Hispanic.

East Providence is a separate city from Providence.

yea...i don't get that. Portuguese people are just white. Theyre from Europe and look white.

And yes East Providence is very different from Providence itself. That's like adding West Hartford to Hartford..

I think it’s important to note here that the census does consider Spaniards (from Spain) to be Hispanic.

I wasn't thinking of that, but thank you. I don't see that as being a significant factor for either Providence or Milwaukee, however.

I would guess they count as diversity. They’re not American whites. Only St Louis with Bosnians or NYC with Russians really have significant white Immigrant groups.

Very few people in Providence today were actually born in Portugal. Those who are left are probably in their 70s, at least. While Portuguese Americans stereotypically cling to their mother country moreso than a lot of other ethnic groups, they are nevertheless "American whites" still for all practical purposes.

I don't think this is true and naw.. they're white. I can't imagine counting that as non-white "diversity" any more than I would Jews or Armenians or Greeks.

It seems ~9.7% of Providence County speakers “other (than Spanish) indo-European languages.

That’s mostly Portuguese I think. (Maybe a tiny bit of Italian?)

Compared to 14.3% of Milwaukee that speaks Spanish.

So Portuguese is almost as common in Providence as Spanish in Milwaukee. Providence is 16.3% Spanish.

It’s also 29.8% vs 20.3% overall non-English speakers.
