I'm shocked that Mexican immigration has surpassed Chinese immigration in the Seattle area! I always assumed Seattle was a major hub of Chinese foreign immigration similar to San Francisco

I'm puzzled by Mexican immigration isn't represented at all for NYC. Aren't there like 300k people of Mexican heritage residing in the city proper alone? The only other explanation is that NYC's Mexican population overwhelmingly migrated from other states, but that's far-fetched being that NYC is NYC. Even Miami has some Mexico-born residents above 20k.

I missed that one. Its 265,090 for foreign born Mexicans in the NYC metro area.

Not gonna lie. Kind of surprised to the United Kingdom above Jamaica, Ireland, Canada, and Portugal in Boston. They've never been a top 10 immigrant group in Boston not at least since before the 2000 Census. These MSA immigrant stats usually reflect Boston proper pretty closely.

I dont include Canada with these but it was 21,573 in Boston MSA.

In the case of the Portugal, its all about Rhode Island:

Boston MSA: 15,198
Providence MSA: 48,099

Ireland is 12,009 and Jamaica is 14,199 for Boston.

Ahhh.

So out of that group:

Canada
UK
Portugal
Jamaica
Ireland

makes sense.

That's an insane amount of Portuguese in the Providence MSA but a lot of that is in Bristol County MA more than South County or Kent County RI.

Yup. Bristol County is definitely the center of the Portuguese community in New England with Fall River and New Bedford doing the heavy lifting.

Another interesting thing is that it also seems to the be the center of the Guatemalan community in that area but not other Hispanic groups.

I wouldn't be surprised if a decent amount of those UK are Black or of West Indian descent.

Boston isn't super popular for Jamaicans overall so I'm not surprised. Boston's Caribbean population is dominated by DR and Haiti and the smaller English speaking islands.

The only stat I'm surprised about for DC is I thought the Ethiopian population was much higher.
