7th or 8th? if you count all 3 NYC Chinatowns then maybe it’s 7th??

who has a more urban vibrant mixed use primarily Chinese Chinatown with late night joints, night clubs, schools and hospitals? Adjacent to the Boston Common or like feature? And a dedicated subway stop and busses.

I said I don’t doubt top 7-8. I didn’t say where in the top 7. I won’t rank it being that I haven’t been and all I can see is photos. Just as you shouldn’t put it against others you haven’t been either.

-3rd or 4th best Chinatown
I think it depends on how we define it.

In making your case, you are combining city, metro area, and state data. I think we would have to zero in on one metric.

I prefer metro area or urban area metrics because, just like in Boston, the bulk of the Asian population lives outside the city. About 23% of the Chinese that live in Greater Boston, live in the city of Boston. Most are in Middlesex County.

To whether I think Boston is an East Asian capital, I think Boston is a Chinese Capital but not really an East Asian one. Populations from Taiwan, Korea, and Japan are not that significant and I think to be called an East Asia Capital, they would have to be. I think that next in line after the big 3 (NYC, LA, and the Bay Area) would be Washington DC and Seattle.

It's also a Cambodian Capital as far as one can exist in the US outside of SoCal. However, I agree that the spread is not as even as it could be. I commented on it in the "perceptions" thread, but I find it surprising that the Boston area is so popular for the Chinese but avoided by Koreans and the Japanese. Decent Vietnamese immigration too for cities outside of Cali or TX and a historic Vietnamese community in Dorchester.

Looks like Houston is top 2 for foreign Black, Hispanic and Asian growth. The only city that's top 5 for all 3

It does seem like there are a decent amount of Taiwanese in Boston (arguably that’s Chinese..). It’s a pretty Chinese city. True there are not many Japanese or Koreans at all. But I kind of feel like China is 90% of East Asia. most of the people should in theory be from China.

I disagree. I think that’s a good point. China is the hyper bulk of East Asia. They dwarf immigration from all othe East Asian countries anyway.

All other East Asian countries make like 2 appearances anywhere win this list..how relevant are they to the conversation really?
