This forum has been a huge help as I've been trying to figure out where to move. I've narrowed it down to these finalists and was hoping to get some thoughts.

Some background: I'm a single, early 30s male, and work from home in a creative industry. I’m looking for a place with a reasonable cost of living, moderate politics, and mild winters. Otherwise, I’m really just looking for a city where it’d be easy to meet people, particularly people in creative fields.

All the cities on this list seem to fit the criteria, so now I'm just trying to decide how to choose between them.

Thanks in advance!

If you want cheap cost of living Austin and Miami are out. Politically both Tampa and Nashville would be your speed, but if the goal is the find creative types than I would give it to Nashville.

You've just described Nashville. The city is so welcoming and creative. Cost of living is reasonable and there are many activities to enjoy.

Nashville is probably your best bet, but Florida’s west coast has a lot of creative types. I think you’d really like St Pete specifically, a suburb of Tampa.

My wife lived in Franklin. I could certainly live walking distance to the town center there. Williamson County is very white collar affluent plus the entertainment industry wealth so you can get your Lamborghini fixed. It’s a decade beyond being affordable, though. The actual city of Nashville is OK. It has Vanderbilt as a world class university and the medical that comes with it. The airport is plenty adequate. NFL team. Really good green space. It’s missing salt water. The four month Austin summer with 100F highs is too much for me. Tampa is kind of a backwater. Miami is too overwhelmingly Spanish for me.

Tampa is the cheapest of the four by far.

Nashville has many strengths, but it does not have mild winters compared to the other three areas, particularly those in Florida. Snow and ice events occur periodically and the average maximum this time of year is in the mid to high 40s. Austin is not so cold on average, but also tends to have more extreme fluctuations than the Florida cities.

All of these areas are blue to purple urban centers in red states, but Florida tends to be a bit more moderate than Texas or Tennessee.

The rankings from my perspective would go like this--

4 Miami
3 Tampa
2 Austin
1 Nashville

Isn’t Nashville cheaper? Like, significantly so?

You can remove Miami and Austin if you’re looking for a reasonable cost of living.
