Except to say that QOL has declined is not really provable with data if we're talking about quality of health care, air quality, quality of K-12 education AND college education, and hispanics participation in higher education SOARED in the 2010s. Also, crime is noticeably lower from 2010-2020, and CAs workforce grew by millions in the 2010s, especially in high wage positions.

So I will agree that cost of housing has gotten out of hand and that has led to the proliferation of more homeless, and traffic is worse than 2010, but overall, CA has a very high HDI.

But to be honest, I sense a huge racial undertone to complaints regarding 'quality of life'. I don't blame people for leaving, it's expensive to live here but I rarely buy their reasoning unless it's cost-of-living or they want a bigger house or they hate taxes or they want a change of scenery or they found a better job, etc. Normal reasons.

But when they go off on state policies and liberal this and liberal that and we're being 'invaded' I just stop listening. Sorry this state has continued to grow it's economy and has lifted so many millions of people out of poverty and has produced so much by way of innovation my attitude can now be summed up in 2 words: Good Riddance.

I think white Californians just don’t like being only 35% of the populations honestly. That and taxes.

Most of the so-called economic boom of the 2010s was due to Silicon Valley benefiting from cheap debt which is over due to high interest rates. The mass tech layoffs are actually good for California. NIMBYism is a huge problem too, as immigration plus nimby policies exacerbated housing scarcity.

California's gini index for inequality is the 7th worst in the nation after Mississippi.

Hispanic Growth:
- Houston more than Miami? Thought Houston was losing Mexicans. It sure is making it up from the other Latin countries.
- DC numbers seem low. I thought they would have gotten that much just in central Americans.

Black Growth:
Charlotte and Raleigh look low, New Orleans look high(no puns please) .

Asian Growth:
Miami needs to get in the program if it wants to make diversity claims. If the 3 major metros in the state it gained the least.

I don't think Miami’s diverse Hispanic population makes up for its lukewarm Asian Growth. Miami is often ranked in the 2nd tier for diversity but I would drop it lower. Can't be diverse in 'the America's ' only. DFW was top 5 across all groups. DFW will be considered more diverse than Miami soon
Yes, exactly about Atlanta.
Good, smart post.

Not to dump on your train of “white people leave California cause they are bad people”

But if you look at age Demographics Groups like Retirees are disproportionately white. (This is a reason CT and MA, historically very white states, are losing white people). In addition aren’t a lot of those “QOL” mid career professionals moving to Texas or Arizona It’s not like Houston or Phoenix is some white-bred town. They’re not going to the UP of Michigan

If you cash out on your house at 68 in retirement you can afford a massive lifestyle upgrade regardless of local prevailing wages because you go from middle class in LA to rich in Glendale.

Combined with White Immigrants Being negligible in replacing White American losses, while that not being true of Hispanics and Asians. Isn’t California also losing Black people? The most expensive areas certainly are, SF’s and LA’s Black population is half of what it was in the 1970s. Unless Black people are leaving cause they’re racist too

Many balls people leave California because it’s expensive: we have way less wealth than white people and much less horn ownership.

Also some Black Californians are leaving California to be around more black people in the South. You could call that racism I guess. But it’s different when you’re 7% you really feel the loss of ‘territory’ and ‘culture’ because you have much less of it to go around than White people do. White people being 5x more populace than balck people can pretty much go anywhere and find things for them.

A lot of what I hear about white people leaving California does reference invasion, and liberal this and liberal that. Has a real racial undertone.
