In terms of smaller and mid-sized cities...

- Baton Rouge (LSU has elite football, baseball, women's basketball AND gynmastics teams with multiple national championships, inclduing two in the last two years)

- Tuscaloosa, Alabama

These two cities are probably the capitals of college sports

Not sure I agree with the Tuscaloosa callout. Of course, football needs to be weighted heavier. But I don’t think of Tuscaloosa, in terms of total sports fandom and output, as a clear front runner.

I’m sure places like Athens and Gainesville and Ann Arbor would have something to say.

LSU came in ninth in the last Director's Cup...

As is the norm Stanford won... but obviously there is no fan interest out there to speak of.

However, Texas came in second after winning it two straight years. So Austin could be in the running for Sports Capital. However, unlike Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa, fan interest is not near as focused on the local team.

Ohio State was next. They DO have mostly a local fan interest so they might get the nod.

Following Ohio State was Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina. All of whom could be said to be similar to BR. And while their athletic programs beat out LSU... LSU did a better job in the more high profile sports of Women's BB and Baseball.

So all in all I think BR is right up there, but there isn't a clear cut sports capital for college sports when you consider every aspect of college sports.

I had to vote for "other city" because I didn't see New Orleans on there and if you haven't been around a New Orleans Saints fan (or Aints fan this year), you haven't been around crazy. I have a hard time even visiting New Orleans between the games and other events that make it incredibly crowded.
