I'm curious about the same figures for Des Moines - the general demographics for the urban area (since the usual figures are either city or MSA, I think) and the white ancestry breakdown, if that's possible for this smaller population. I'd like to compare it with Minneapolis, which is already listed here.

I know some people like the CSA measurement so I decided to explore it. I think something that would be pretty good to look at is the difference between CSA and Urban area measurements since one is extremely targeted and the other is over bloated. Nonetheless not all CSAs are created equal (aside from commute patterns). So anyway, demographics below:

^^^ Chicago's percentages look off.

At CSA level on NY/NJ holds all four major racial backgrounds at least above 10%. Las Vegas is closest up after that.
