Actually....as a southern Rocklander, thats a good point about the traffic, but traffic aside, I am always frustrated that the turnpike ends where it does, because its always a hassle to get to! I would have to drive south on the palisades parkway, only to end up meandering the mean streets of Fort Lee to find the tpk....and i always get lost in Fort lee, and end up just eating at a korean restaurant

Why? Isn't the quality of beaches relevant to the topic? Also, there is nothing to discuss. A LI beach was named the best ion the nation and another a number five on the to ten list. What do you want to discuss? Methodology of this list? Talk to Dr. Beach a/k/a Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman PhD - director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University.

One LI beach has been named the best in the nation, another number five on the top ten list while none of the Jersey beaches made it to the list at all. Of course one could risk a claim that LI beaches are better in general but in any case those two LI beaches named in the list are better than any beach in New Jersey. That should count for something, right? Or not?

You may discuss vibes, charms etc all day and night yet rankings like this do not leave much doubt and room for interpretation. Just think about it, LI beach was named not only better than any New Jersey beach but also any Califronia, Florida, Carolina or Hawaii beach, that's really indicative for quality, isn't it? Yes, I believe LI beaches are better than New Jersey beaches.

'vibes' and 'charms' are your words. This ranking does not paint a general picture.

With that logic let's discuss this:

If two restaurants in Chicago were named better than any NYC restaurants does that equate to all Chicago restaurants being better than all NYC restaurants? No. It does not.

NJ has a couple of locations that are two of the most visited tourist destinations in the US. LI doesn't have any. Does that mean NJ is a better tourism spot? No.

Furthermore, let's take your sentence: LI beach was named not only better than any New Jersey beach but also any Califronia, Florida, Carolina or Hawaii beach,

And break it up. You said an LI beach (one beach) was named better than most. So that means, if every beach on LI was a wasteland, that particular beach would still be number 1. Correct?

My point is this: those two beaches are most likely pristine and notable beaches. However, I do not understand how that automatically concludes that every beach on LI is just as nice (otherwise that list would have more LI. No?)

The statement shouldn't be: LI beaches are better than NJ beaches, it is: those TWO LI beaches are better than NJ beaches

Really? None of the Jersey beaches made the list while LI got the top and fifth spot and you still arguing your case? After all those two share waters and sand with the rest of Long Island...

Nevertheless, you have to admit that LI has something New Jersey does not: top quality beaches. Are you still suprised that people prefer the Hamptons over Seaside?

No, because beaches in NJ aren't in NNJ, so it would be going off topic therefore you should make a 7th account and discuss it on the NJ beaches Vs NY beaches thread..

Are people supposed to kiss the feet of the creators of all these lists?
You're relying on lists as back up too, then make duplicate accounts to further back them up... It's a sign of insanity.

If NNJ does not have any beaches than LI has a clear advantage of NNJ: some of the best beaches in the country and access to the ocean. Do you like it more now?

That list is WAY wrong.

East Hampton Main Beach beats Cooper's Beach, hands down!

Does LI have mountains?
Can you snowboard and/or ski in LI?

The Delaware Water Gap alone attracts millions a year.

I'm ok with being a little over an hour, if not less from the shore.

And if LI really had the huge advantage you speak of, why would you have to make 6+ accounts to try to prove a non-existing point?
