San Francisco is dense, but in terms of being in a place where you feel the influence/connection/stress/distress of East Coast influence, I'd say it is LA, NOT SF. SF is more European in feel than East Coast. And while SF has a certain intellectuall snobbiness that is similar to Boston, LA seems to have the most East Coasters and the most East Coast attitude.
This is like asking what apples are most like oranges.
Haha. I agree. If san fran is like the eastcoast, why move there, or call it the westcoast? If I wanna live out west, I dont want the city im living in to feel like the eastcoast.

I agree. It's more different then the eastcoast then people think. Geographically, Climate wise, and, culturally, it's NOTHING like the eastcoast. The only thing in my opinion, that makes it similar to the eastcoast is the fact that it's dense, and it has good public transit.

SFO,I agree, has that intellectual thing like boston, and in fact, only derives it's east coast influence from boston,if we are to say that there is an east coast influence,at all. Meaning...sfo is not like phl,nyc,DC,etc...I would only say SFO and boston share a few parallels...otherwise,west coast is not east coast, and visa versa. SFO also is a city on the bay, like boston. the similarities kinda end there. And,whoever mentioned jewish and LA vs. sfo,i totally agree! I couldn't even find a decent bagel to save my life in the time i lived in sfo....lol Okay,I finally found a place on geary that did a decent job...but,noah's bagels? PULEEZ.
I use to think it was San Francisco but the more I live in Seattle the more I lean towards Seattle. San Francisco because of its density but Seattle because of the weather with the beautiful falls and sort of cold winters with occassional snow. Also a lot of its architecture really reminds me of being back east.
It's very close between Seattle and San Francisco. Both have a slight Northeastern college feel. I think LA and San Diego are more Midwestern than Eastern in feel.
I dont know if Id say more east coast influence, as much as I would say San Francisco is similar to many east coast cities in terms of urban form and structure.
Yeah, call me crazy, but I just don't see the east coast in SF, or Oakland. They just seem like densely populated west coast cities to me. The palm trees, the hills, the laid back lifestyle, the alternative feel etc, all make the Bay area just feels VERY west coast, and NOTHING like the east.
