Going out in Charleston SC is the equivalent of going out in Mobile Alabama. If you like the Charleston beaches better then that is your opinion, but I doubt the majority feel the same.
If you want sheer excitement then Atlantic City is the place.. if you don't mind the all riff raff and the smells. But if you want a nice pristine beach to relax at, or like talking a walk amid beautiful manisons and palmetto lined streets, may I suggest Charleston? Bottom line, the beach is cleaner. The enviroment prettier. And the night life though not as boisterous Atlantic city, is fine. Don't forget Chrleston is somewhat of a college town with MUSC, CSU, The Citadel etc..so it is not quite devoid of youthful verve..

I used to live in South Carolina(Greenwood). It can be a nice place to visit. On the other hand, I don't think I would live there. I got really bored living there. I need to be in a big city and have stuff literally at my fingertips. Major league sports would make me happy as well.

What smells do you speak of in Atlantic City? The smell of the ocean? Smell of sausage and peppers?

FYI, the beaches and waters are much cleaner in NJ than in SC. I loooove disspelling stereotypes:

Summer break: U.S.'s cleanest beaches are in the northeast | McClatchy

NJ waters are tied with Florida's as the 9th cleanest in the US. SC? #19.

Another FYI ... Atlantic City is only one beach out of about 40 or 50 in NJ. Our beaches range from fun and rowdy (Atlantic City, Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant Beach) to quiet and pristine (Island Beach, Long Beach Island, Spring Lake, etc).

Really the only areas that have a poor quality of air are near Elizabeth/Linden/Newark airport.

And it obviously has little to no effect on overall health. The life expectancy in NJ is WAY higher than in SC:

Table: U.S. States Ranked by Life Expectancy

Again, people who don't know any better keep bringing up these small cities in NJ that may not the safest, but overall NJ is one of the safest states in the US. It's top 5 in the US in terms of safety. So, YES, there are a handful of towns/cities that are not safe, but the vast majority of NJ (where most people actually LIVE) is way, way above average in terms of safety.

Would you leave a brand new Benz open with a wallet on the dash in ANY city in SC? Or ANY city in the world?? LOL.

(^^that's kind of a dumb statement you made, no?)

There are a lot of silly, misguided posts on this thread.
Actually I have left my wallet on my dash and had my doors trunk and hood open on my car when I was detailing, came inside and fell aslep and it was 100% untouched when I got up in the morning. So to answer your lame reply, no it's not dumb.

I was born and lived in Jersey and to say no one lives in North New Jersey is the single stupidest comment you can make.

Newark, Jersey City, Paterson and Elizabeth are the 4 biggest cities polulation wise in the state. You can throw in Trenton, Camden and Cliffton to the top 10 also. All those cities SUCK big time.

The smell of sewage from the surrounding slums. The smell of rotten food and urine in the water of the hotdog carts..

The beach I go to in Charleston is the on the Isle of Palms and is voted one of the cleanest beaches in the nation by the Clean Beaches Council. Look it up.

Where was this that you left your wallet in your car? In a CITY, or a SUBURB? Because you can do that in a suburb in NJ as well ... but the original statement that somebody (was it you?) made was that in the cities of Newark, Irvington, etc...you couldn't do that.

LOL - I didn't say "nobody lives in North Jersey". I said nobody really lives in the handful of ghetto cities in NJ aside from very poor people, and that the MAJORITY of people in NJ live in very nice suburbs. There are maybe 6-700,000 people who inhabit those small inner cities ... 8 Million live in suburbs or rural areas in NJ ... aka, vast majority. You completely mid-read my post.

There is no smell of sewage in Atlantic City. I have been to AC many times and have only smelled the smell of the sea, and boardwalk food.

You can name some clean beaches in SC, and I can name some clean beaches in NJ ... the truth is, as a WHOLE, NJ's beaches are cleaner than SC's beaches.
