I can't think of any truly generic cities as every city has distinctive things about them. I guess if you have only passed by on the highway or visited an airport, you might think some are generic though

I wouldn't say Houston is 'generic' though. Ugly, maybe; chaotic, yes, but generic? No.

Orlando, Phoenix, Charlotte or Virginia Beach are generic to me.
I simply don't understand how anyone can put Orlando in this mix. When you mention Orlando, people automatically think of Disney, Universal, and the weather. The tourism sector here makes the city look and feel different than others with all the resorts, theme parks, and neon saturating the landscape. Please explain to me how that is generic? Whether you think it's good or bad is irrelevant, Orlando is a very unique place to the vast majority of people in this county. If it weren't people would not visit. The urban sprawl surrounding these areas is just like any other city's. Houston is certainly no more unique, as I can't think of anything that comes to mind when someone says Houston.

True. Of course it has things about it that are unique. I could say any number of things that are unique about every city. However, my point is that using Houston as an argument for uniqueness over Orlando is just funny. Orlando to me is more unique than many cities visually due to all the tourist spots here. Anyone that drives around all the Disney resorts, Universal, and down I-drive and says that looks generic must be kidding. Name me another area like it? Las Vegas is the only place even remotely similar, and it has a totally different look and vibe.

Nobody goes to Orlando to actually visit downtown Orlando, they go to visit Disney World. There is nothing that makes Orlando unique except that it is the only major city in Florida with no beach.

That logic just shows your bias against anything positive about Orlando.

The suburban sprawl that surrounds the tourist areas is quite generic to me. The theme park areas are unique on their own, but most of the people in the Orlando area who don't work at the parks have nothing to do with that area.

The tourist traps and endless chain restaurants are tourist traps on steroids, basically. I could go to Myrtle Beach, Clifton Hill (by Niagara Falls), parts of Anaheim, or even other parts of Florida and find similar areas, therefore, they aren't that unique to me.

This is a good point. But it begs the question. What is truly unique? Because if we go by that logic, then alot of places in which MOST people THINK is unique, you can find those characteristics in other places.
