Yeah it may have gotten safer than it was, but that just means its not the single most dangerous city in the US at the moment. Its still no joke. I don't know where some of these people get their all-or-nothing ideas from.

i see plenty people voted for Highland Park smh probaly JUST because it says Detroit next to it. People love to come down on us but many times some of you all come off very ignorant because you obviously dont know ANYTHING about Detroit besides what the bias media tells you. If you did you would know Highland Park is NOT a neighborhood in Detroit it is a city itself. Yes like a REAL city. With its own police, council, mayor etc. its called an inclave (city within a city)

Anyone have statistics?

I have some of a couple of West Bronx hoods (could be consider South)

This was from 2009:

44th precinct population (estimate): 75,000

2009 crime stats

murder rate: 15 per 100,000
rape rate: 43 per 100,000
robbery rate: 540 per 100,000
assault rate: 777 per 100,000

The 44th precinct for those who don't know covers the Yankee Stadium area.

And the 46th precinct a little further up:

46th precinct population (estimate): 78,353

murder rate: 17 per 100,000
rape rate: 27 per 100,000
robbery rate: 502 per 100,000
assault rate: 539 per 100,000

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Mind you those 2 precincts were two of the most infamous back in the crack era...the 46th precinct area was known as the ALAMO. I'd say about as bad as New York has to offer nowadays. I will attempt to get the stats for the 40th, 41st, and 42nd....which are what most people associate so. bro with.

42nd precinct from 2008 (The area of charlotte street and the vacant lots in which President Carter visited and said it was the worst neighborhood he'd ever seen)

42nd precinct ( pop 62,646)

murder rate: 23 per 100,000
rape rate 37 per 100,000
robbery rate: 549 per 100,000
assault rate: 457 per 100,000

41st precinct (Hunts Point in all it's infamy...prostitutes, junkies, record murder rates, Ft Apache)

murder rate: 7 per 100,000
rape rate: 36 per 100,000
robbery rate: 669 per 100,000
assault rate: 839 per 100,000

I will say something about the Bronx in general. The neighborhoods fluctuate year to year. You may notice Hunts Point low murder rate in 2008, but in 2007 it's rate was 18 per 100,000. However, the assault rate is out of control. Definitely a neighborhood with many problems still. In general the Bronx has higher assasult rates.

I will get numbers for two more precincts...the 40th and the 48th.

But if anyone has statistics, please show. I want to see the comparison.

But in NYC, most people wouldn't step foot into Brownsville, Brooklyn. It is considered NYC's worst hood. (2008 stats)

Brownsville pop (87,500)

homicide rate: 35 per 100,000
rape rate: 34 per 100,000
robbery rate: 682 per 100,000
assault rate: 590 per 100,000

You won't find a homicide in the 30's in any other neighborhood. Brooklyn in general, is a little bit to trigger happy.

Default boredatwork

from wikipedia
Washington Highlands is among the most violent neighborhoods in the District of Columbia; approximately one third of the city's 181 homicides in 2007 occurred there.[1]

The Highlands is a population of 27,000....1/3 of 181 is 94 murders for 27,000 ppl....if the Highlands were an independent city thats the worst....more than E. St Louis ....94/.27=......i dont know about '09 but there were 134 probably made up 1/3 again....which would've been 49/ .27= still

Come on now im sure the same could be said for places like New Orleans and Detroit too

Just out of boredom I'll do my old neighborhood.

South Jamaica aka Southside; Queens, NYC, NY

Population - 37,271

Homocides - 12/15 (rate: 32.2/40.2 per 100k)
Rapes - 28 (rate: 75.1 per 100k)
Robberies - 369 (990.0 per 100k)
Assaults - 327 (877.4 per 100k)
Burglaries - 324 (869.3 per 100k)
Grand Larceny - 666 (1,786.9 per 100k)
G.L.A. - 260 (697.6 per 100k)

I see the NYPD quietly lowered the stats, I remember the 113th Precinct recorded 15 murders in 2009 but now it says 12, they did the same thing for the 103rd Precinct too (13 down to 11).

Population:

Your numbers are way off. First off, no NYC neighborhood has crime stats like that throughout the board. Secondly, in the city data page that you linked, its boundaries are not the same as the 113th precinct. There is way more people you need to count to make the statistics accurate. The northen limit is 109th ave, the eastern limit Francis Lewis BLVD, the south-west limit Liberty ave (including all the airport area) and finally the south-east limit being Springfield. I'll do it for you later. But the numbers are much lower than that.
