Hmmmm

How "City-Data.com General U.S." members view the largest MSAs in America?

5) Philadelphia - bashed
6) Houston - mixed

8) Atlanta - mixed
9) Washington D.C. - mixed
10) Boston - loved

Well to say Dallas is not discuss much is kind of crazy. DFW did add more residents than any other metro area in the country last year.

tenken, that's pretty accurate. This is how I perceive it if you break it down by region...

Northeast
Praised: New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington
Neutral: Baltimore, Providence
Bashed: Philadelphia, Buffalo

Midwest
Praised: Chicago, Minneapolis
Neutral: St. Louis, Milwaukee
Bashed: Kansas City, Detroit, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati

South
Praised: None
Neutral: Tampa, San Antonio, New Orleans
Bashed: Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, Charlotte, Louisville, Richmond, Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham

West
Praised: Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Denver
Neutral: San Diego, Sacramento
Bashed: Phoenix, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City

mixed (Most people praise it for it's character, but not much outside of that. People who live in/near the region have experience with the city and voice it. Many people think they would like to live there.)

Eh, for the most part...some others I disagree with, but then again you are referring to this particular forum and not real life. I think it's mostly your differentiation between mixed/defended.

Good picks. I pretty much agree completely with your list. Very nice.

Actually, it seems like the Dallas-Ft Worth area is the least talked about big city in the General U.S. forum (and City vs City subforum) from what I've seen so far. It never comes close to being mentioned as much as the usual suspects (New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta), especially for being the 4th largest MSA in America. That's strange.

Yes, that list was entirely the impression that I got of the cities from all the posts that I've seen within the City-Data General US forums. Not from the individual state/city forums.

I wanted to keep it simple so I didn't differentiate mixed and defended. Colts' usage of Neutral was probably the better terminology to use.

All the cities that get super bashed here on CD:
Miami
Orlando
Phoenix
Detroit
Cleveland
Los Angeles
Houston
Chicago (Yeahhh lately there's been a lot of bashing for this city)
San Francisco (Lately there's been quite a lot of bashing for this city too)
Indianapolis
Oklahoma City

That's about all.

I think a lot of these cities get bashed because people 1) Dont want to realize these cities actually do have anything to offer. 2) A lot of these cities are in a high growth region and are completely different cities than they were when the 2000 census came out!
