I'd say New Jersey, Mississippi, and Arkansas are the most bashed, and mostly none of them deserve it.
The assumption is that New Jersey is all slums and chemical factories when in fact it's still got a lot of farmland and pretty shoreline, and the best pizza in America. The assumption about Mississippi is that it's all ignorant, toothless folks wearing overalls who burn crosses, and that Arkansas is just a bunch of hog farmers only slightly more literate than Mississippi.
In reality, both Arkansas and Mississippi are very pretty, and actually have artists, and bookstores( heavens!)...Mississippi has a nice shoreline, and Arkansas has hills and lots of green and lakes.
Houston and Dallas ranked #1 and #2 in population growth in the latest census. Houston was ranked #1 in:
Best City for Recent College Grads (Gosh, I thought they all flocked to NYC?) - Forbes 2008
Best US City to Earn a Living - Forbes 2008
Nations Healthiest Housing Market - Builder and Hanley 2009
Nominal Job Growth - Bureau of Labor Statistics 08-09
Texas has the most fortune 500 companies in the country, is the nation's #1 exporting state, and was rated America's top state for business by CNBC.
Surely SOMONE wants to move here?
Oh and please, tell me what cities you have been to in Texas and what you didn't like about them?
Most college graduates around here move to Texas, though some also go to Memphis. I personally love Dallas and Houston and look forward to moving down there (prefer Houston) when the economy recovers. I could be making twice as much doing the same thing in Houston as I am doing in podunk Little Rock, and I also would have the advantage of there being things to see and do.

Agree with you 100 % Annie. I really wish that people would actually come down and experience the 2 cities and then pass judgement.
The vast majority of people living here love it.
Of course other cities and states are bashed for no reason as well, mostly on unjustified stereotypes

Because not many people can afford NYC and other more expensive areas around the country. If you can afford NYC and live a nice life there, I don't see any reason to move somewhere that has a lot less of what you're used to.
New Jersey (mostly real life bashing), Texas and Florida (mostly this forum). Southern California should be its own choice--if it was, I would vote for it.
You just confirmed Sweetclimber's opinion about Texas being the most bashed. Probably up there with Florida and New Jersey. Difference is people defend Texas and New Jersey but no one defends Florida.
you will find a couple of people defending Florida. In fact, they bash anyone who says bad things about it.
You know what? They are WANNABES who don't even live in Florida. For what it is worth, you won't find this NEW YORKER defending the state of Florida. I detest it.
My top 3 would be Florida, Texas, and NJ (not me).
Just from reading the boards here at C-D for a while I'd pick Texas and California. Now that doesn't mean they deserve to get bashed. It just seems like it happens.
No, I'm not jealous of either state. I don't know why people who live in big cities would be jealous of it too. I never once heard someone say here that they wish they lived in TX. I like CA far more than I like TX. I wouldn't mind living in CA one day, but I really just don't like TX.
That's basically what everyone was reffering to when they say texas is the most bashed.
