It's Westchester, NY, and while there are certainly humid and cloudy summer days, that's not really typical weather.

Here's the difference between a place like Westchester (which is the suburb just north of NYC, for those unfamiliar with the area) and a place like L.A. in the summer:

One is perpetually sunny but arid, with amazing weather but no real peaks and valleys to fully appreciate that weather. You never really have to worry about rain, the weather's always conducive to getting out and doing something, and there's rarely overwhelming heat.

The other comes on slowly, with days that gradually warm as a verdant tidal wave spreads over the landscape, to the point where backyards and roadsides become suggestions of deep, tangled forests. Taking a drive through some of Westchester's more leafy neighborhoods on a warm summer night, watching the stars pass through a canopy of leaves through an open moon-roof, is an experience you can't replicate in a place like L.A.

Does it suck to endure the winters in New York? Absolutely. Some people insist they love it, but it absolutely sucks to leave the house early in the morning in sub-20-degree temperatures and have to stand outside for 10 minutes, cleaning the snow off your car so you can go to work.

In that respect, L.A. wins, hands down.

But while L.A. has better year-round weather, in my opinion there's no way an L.A. summer can come close to a summer in southern New York.

But in NYC proper you don't have to worry about scraping ice off a car...except in Staten Island and part of outer borougs. Manhattan residents and people in Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey, and the Bronx near Manhattan usually don't even own cars or just dont drive them often.

LA's weather is terrible in the summer once you get several miles inland. And if you are in a valley, forget it. Still beats new york, tho,

Unlike NYC or Chicago or just about anywhere outside California, LA has more climates than most states. Right on the immediate coastline [like Santa Monica\ Venice Beach\ Redondo Beach, etc.] the difference between winter & summer is around 15 degrees [mid-upper 60's to near 80F]. Frost is unheard of & very hot or very cold days hardly exist. But inland just a few miles and the temp can become much warmer during summer. Just over the hill from West LA to the San Fernando valley can mean a difference of 30 degrees in less than 10 miles. Summers in the 90's to near 100F are typical in the LA valleys. Also frost is possible on cold winter nights inland. On the coast one can do without an air conditioner & hardly need a furnace but inland a person would die without AC.

There's nothing like that in New York though the areas right on the ocean can be cooler if the wind is coming in over the ocean.

I find it ridiculous that people NOT from L.A. believe it is 75 year round. Kinda makes me laugh a little bit. L.A. has changes in weather, you just have to live here your whole life to notice and appreciate them. Whoever says L.A. doesn't have fall colors has to look around.

I agree, NY doesn't really have something of that caliber but it does have a lot of weather variations. I actually got sick going from mid-90 degree heat just north of JFK to mid-70's & wind by the beach less than 2 miles away, its not normally like that though. NW New Jersey can be 10-20 cooler on any given day but mostly in the Winter. West of the city tends to get stronger thunderstorms because they aren't moderated by the ocean. The Coast (Jersey Shore, Long Island & Staten Island) get slightly milder Winters with as much as 5-10" less snow than Manhattan on average.

I love New York City, but I gotta tell you, I just got back from another trip to LA and was greeted by 15 degree weather at JFK. It was sunny and 68 at LAX. I'm not sure why anyone would prefer a climate that makes it uncomfortable to walk down the street. Of course, in LA, you wouldnt be walking anyway...

Regardless, LA wins hands down. As far as city? Well, that'sa whole different story, and why my residence is ny, ny...

Well today it is raining lightly & in the 50's [as about as cold as it ever gets] but we need the rain badly. People from Ohio & Oregon are here for the Rose Bowl so they will love how nice it will be on New Year's Day: sunny\ 70's.

I can't complain with weather in the 70s, but one thing that is annoying about L.A. is the pollution. If we didn't have that, it sure would have been nice It really isn't that easy to say whether L.A. weather is better than NYC weather. Considering that some say NYC has the best 4 season weather in the whole US(I did not say this, I've only heard this from others), it would be tough to vote for one in favor of the other.
