grapico - Now that I think of it, I remember going to a little cafe in Tarpon Springs when I was young where they DID put potato salad on top of a regular Greek salad!!!

Perhaps it's popular within certain Greek circles.........but still weird, if you ask me!

The Cuban isnt known on a national level? Just because it doesnt have the named "tampa" attached dosent mean it isnt Tampa cuisine. And Im sure Cubans are just as popular as cheesestakes, which is only good on pizza IMO.

Publix subs aren't bad or anything, and I get you were just saying they are so popular they have them on the menu not that they would blow away a cuban restaurant version of it
I can't help myself - I have to have at least one Cuban from the Publix deli a week! We used to have a great, authentic Cuban place very close to where I live, but they burned down.

Sadly, we don't have as many Cuban restaurants here as I would like, so the deli works for me. Besides, they heat up perfectly in the micro - and I LOVE that they bake their own Cuban bread daily.

Sorry to get so far off topic.

I vote Tampa!

nah cuz, I think it is a lack of greek people and a plethora of only southern people who love potato salad, next thing you know they are going to be putting their cold baked beans on an italian salad Buy 2 and get a free publix sweet tea.
Nothing against potato salad, I like the stuff, but hold it on my greek salad k publix?

You should know, because you've put me on ignore before. It says the person posted but you can't read what they say. For a few of my posts, he's posted right after I did. I can only assume he's at least responded to 2 of my posts. I honestly don't care. Many people I know have him on ignore.

And honestly when I get out of here, I'd rather just fly to Mexico, Jamaica, DR, PR, etc. I honestly enjoyed the beaches up by north ave in Chicago in the summer more than any beach I've ever been to in Florida. FL beaches outside of Miami to me are boring, people laying around mostly doing nothing or building sandcastles. Then you have PC and Daytona which are redneck ****holes. Destin/FWB is beautiful, but really not much going on. Feel the same about tampa/st pete/clearwater/sarasota area.
But yes the beaches in Tampa are more beautiful than Jersey... actual fun on them??? I dunno...I'd probably take Jersey, I know I would take Chicago and it is not even on an ocean.
Now back to philly...it blows away Tampa in every single category as far as what the "city" offers outside of weather and location. Tampa Downtown is like a neighborhood in Philly.
I agree with you about beaches in Mexico, DR and outher countries, but Chicago??? Those beaches on the lake?? C'mon man, you know darn well they cant compete with florida beaches, Florida has variety. And Daytona sucks?? They have a movie theater, shopping, and fast food joints and restaurants right on the beach. Fort Lauderdale beach also has PLENTY of things to do, Las Olas is one of them, and it has PLENTY of clubs. Hollywood beach has it's own boardwalk with PLENTY of restaurants and clubs. There are tons of places outside Miami that have PLENTY of things to do. Chicago is better CITY then ANY city in Florida hands down, but those lake michigan beaches arent THAT much better then the ones in Florida.

There are several styles of potato salad...German, French, Italian, Cajun, etc...and yes, Greek: Greek Potato Salad: Patatosalata Recipe : Cat Cora : Food Network It is far from a "southern only" dish. I've never heard of putting it on a Greek Salad...not sure where that comes from.

Is there a lack of Greek people in Tampa? Atlanta has a very large Greek community with a history dating back to the 1800s.

I wasn't saying the beaches themselves, just the beach scene, what is going on there. I think it is better than Tampa, yes. The quality is not even close to be sure of the actual beaches, or the water and palm trees etc..

Yes I think Daytona sucks...the beach is nasty, they drive cars on it.

Miami as I said, is fine and fun. FLL is too. Tampa area beaches eh... not so much.

DeaconJ I know, but you can't deny southern potato salad isn't being served up at family reunions and picnics allover the south. It's probably the #2 side dish behind cole slaw. I prefer the german style myself.
