What are these major world cities New York, London, Tokyo, Chicago, Hong Kong, Paris, Singapore..etc have one thing in common? Simply put....a dominant global financial center. Without one, LA is just another average world city on a global scale.

And as far as global media, Singapore, Chicago et al take a very distant back seat to Los Angeles.

Being a national capital also does wonders for cities. Los Angeles is quite an outlier, but that doesn't mean it's not a world city.

it's obviously L.A. statistics show solid proof that L.A. is thee second largest city.

I would say Chicago is average. It has nothing special, but a enormous downtown (which is quite nice) and that's about it. L.A. has culture and the global cinema.

I'll take economics and financial domination over global media.

LA now, in the future will be Houston. Sorry SF metro, you'll be left in the dust. Boston can't grow much more, so even with its plusses, no hope. Chicago will never turn Lake Michigan into an ocean. DC - will put up a good fight but ultimately will succumb.

How exactly is Houston going to supplant LA?
