San Diego is a very provincial and "local" city. I'm not sure anyone is particularly wow'ed by San Diego...which is why it's rarely discussed here (or any travel related publication, in general).
It is not a world class or sophisticated city at all. Too "normal" and not much of a step up from Phoenix or Orlando.

I'm sure people are WOWED by it's surroundings, and nature.

Anyway, mostly everyone on here and tourists always rave how beautiful SD is, so whatever you say. and Phoenix? you can't compare SD to Phoenix! Phoenix as much as I like it is completely lacking in everything san diego has. They have no real mountains, hills, comfortable weather, things to do etc. so that's not a fair comparison
"San Diego's economy is largely composed of agriculture, biotechnology/biosciences, computer sciences, electronics manufacturing, defense-related manufacturing, financial and business services, ship repair, ship construction, software development, telecommunications, wireless research, and tourism. The presence of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with the affiliated UCSD Medical Center promotes research in biotechnology."
