Looks like Philly has beat out Chicago as the most affordable big city in America

Recent update from Zumper National Rent Report shows Chicago rents have increased slightly while Philadelphia showed no noticeable increase.

That being said, both Chicago and Philadelphia are amazing cities and very underappreciated. Chicago despite the rent increase is still a cheap major city. All the right wing media propaganda about "crime ridden hell" Chicago has probably been a blessing in disguise, keeping people away and thus rents have only slightly increased and even remained stable.

The big question now is when Philadelphia sees it's own rent increase will it eclipse Chicago's rent increase?

I tend to think it's inevitable given Philadelphia's location. I don't expect NYC or even DC prices, but investment is trickling into so many parts of the city and the prices are beginning to reflect that.

But I agree, I love both cities for their own unique features.

I'm ttt this thread as I'm looking at both cities. If Philly weren't on the eastern seaboard, it's a slam dunk for Chicago. But it is, and I have family in NY. I really want to go for Chicago but Philly's location is perfect.
