Yeah, I mean it's really not a murderous city, we had some years with 1 or 0 murders. But 9 is alot for a city with just 27k residents. & alot of the murders were just straight up senseless.

^ That is a ton! Pound for pound, that would be like New York having 2,800 murders by this point in the year.

idk y maybe me eyes or playing tricks on me but i would think that 9 killings would be small for a population of even 5,000 lmao.

Think of it this way... in a place as dense as NY, there could easily be 27,000 people in a 3 block radius. Imagine 9 homocides happening in whats basically a single neighborhood. That would be like a murder every month and a half, so you can imagine what its like living in neighborhoods with 20+ or even 30+ homocides a year. Out here in Oakland there were 30 murders in DEO (Deep East Oakland) in 2008, which has approximately the same population as Newburgh. That would be about a 100 per capita rate, or a murder every week and a half in a single neighborhood. As terrible as that is, there are places that are far worse, namely in Richmond CA (5-10 murders a year in the North Richmond neighborhood which has a population of about 2,300, which is a per capita rate between 200 and 400/100K ).

I Think most major cities have neighborhoods in the 100 per 100k in the bad sections of most major cities

Most of the neighborhoods you speak of aren't large. DEO is about 35x20 blocks and still has a 100/100K murder rate.

I'd agree with that. There are certain areas around Chicago where you can draw a circle around neighborhoods that total 100,000 people and easily be around 50-75 murders per year.

Then there are other neighborhoods like Lakeview that have 100,000 people and haven't seen a murder in well over a year.

I dont know the population of the 7th district in SE DC but I think its 4 neighborhoods (Anacostia, Washington Highlands, Naylor Gardens, and Barry farms and had 133 murders in 1993

My family is from Durango.
I'd like to keep informed.
I have direct links to most major newspapers in Mexico. As far as Durango, my source is the Procuderia (sp) General de El Estado, which is the U.S. Equivelant of the state attorney general office. The state of Durango is really good at keeping their stats posted current unlike Juarez. I will keep tabs on Durango for you for sure.
