haha! OK for most people in their 20's! But seriously, I've met WAY more people in their teens or 20's who either have picked and moved to Austin or want to move to Austin than Dallas or Houston. Usually it's for college (obviously), music, film, or just to live in Austin. It seems to have much more of cultural influence on Texans in they're 20's than Houston or Dallas.

That is true! If the University of Texas wasn't there it would be another Lubbock or Amarillo!

maybe for suburban white college kids, but for everybody else it's houston or dallas

Austin only overshadows Dallas and Houston to a certain extent. Houston and Dallas are both a more desirable location to minorities.

Saying Houston doesn't offer anything to unique is incorrect. How could you say it doesn't offer anything unique when you stated you didn't know much about it? Houston's problem is the lack of publicity and media.

Austin is like a Texas version of LA.

It's not just in the suburbs though. White kids in small towns and living IN Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth also love Austin. I've never actually lived in the suburbs BTW. I've only lived in small towns and big cities. Either way, it's just another city in Texas to "over shadow" Houston's culture to people outside of Texas.

that maybe true, but it's WAY more of an appeal for people in their 20's than just UT now a days.

Outside of the state:

Houston seems to be viewed as a city of work and business, not fun and play.

Austin is viewed as a city of fun for younger white people. Minorities have little interest in Austin.

Dallas is the most popular city over all (at least in name). Like Houston, its mostly viewed of as a city to work in, but it markets itself alot better than Houston. For that reason, its nightlife, shopping, and culture are more well known outside of the state (even if they are better or not).
