Is Tennessee as expensive as Mn as far as taxes and cost of living? How about snow? How cold does it get in the winter and what is the hotest it gets? Thanks for any info.
Tennessee is much hotter than Minnesota, with basically no snow. Also much cheaper. In my opinion, TN also has a much lower quality of life than MN. You couldn't have picked two more different states to compare.
I am thinking about moving to TN but am tossing the idea back and forth. Funny we have a long winter and winter doesnt bother me. But how hot of weather are we talking? I have oaid so much for cost of living for so long I dont know what cheaper is anymore.
TN and KY cost of living is like going back a few decades in time (to the 1980s) compared to many other places. I am not kidding. In terms of employment opportunities you have to stick to the metro areas, and even there I am not sure if they are as good as the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro. That is just my opinion.
Cost of living in TN is much lower. There is no state income tax, and goods are cheaper. You will see some snow in the winter in TN, especially in the east. Eastern TN is the way to go here. I lived in a small town in southern MN for a little while, and would have to say the quality of life is better in TN if you live in the mountains. Of course, I am from the south anyway and am used to the summer heat. Unemployment rates are about 3% better in MN.

Yes, if I were to live any further south I would have to go up in elevation to portions of east TN or western NC. Boone, NC is just unbelievable if you can afford it (if one is self-employed).
Add to that being the center of American music (rock and roll, bluegrass, gospel, country, and jazz), the Grand Ole Opry, the Great Smoky Mountains, historic Memphis, the rolling hills of central Tennessee, great weather, and some beautiful Tennessee girls, and it's an easy choice.
And for all this, you pay much LESS than in any overpriced Midwestern or Northeastern state.
It's cheaper and if I were going to have to deal with arctic-like winters, I'd at least want breathtaking landscape (i.e. Alaska) or huge, exciting cities (i.e. Chicago). MN has neither.
Tennessee on the other hand, isn't colder than a witch's tit AND has breathtaking landscape.

This fear of cold weather is blown completely out of proportion. I don't have many negative things to say about Tennessee but aside from the "culture shock" of moving to the deep south I have similar concerns about Tennessee's weather -- too muggy in the summer and no real winter, or 4 seasons.
