CME gets a lot of international publicity, people sit there and they watch it all day long across the world.

Lol, Oprah!

I hate to take 18M's side here, but I think there are nearly as many people know who Gaven Newsom is as there are people who know who Richard Daley is. Bloomberg is on an entirely other level, partly because NYC is so much bigger, but also because of Bloomberg News/Financial. Having said that, I voted for Miami. Despite both SF and Chi having huge media presences, neither city comes close to Miami in terms of cultural significance. Nearly all of the Spanish language media in the United States is headquartered in South Florida. Chicago has WGN, similar to how Atlanta has TBS, while SF has no national cable channel. Meanwhile, Telemundo, Univision, Galavision, and TeleFutura are all based out of Miami.

Chicago's financial industry is not as big as the Bay Area's technology industry-at least not as far as being media outlets are concerned.

Politically speaking, Barack Obama is from Chicago but Nancy Pelosi being from San Francisco in and of itself is a darn near a national rallying cry for neocons. Everyone knows she is from San Francisco...here's a funny as hell commercial from a congressional race in Missouri of all places:

Furthermore, For better or for worse, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is one of the most famous mayors in the world.

Also, in the realm of politics, SF is also where one of the most polarizing NeoCons does his show: Michael Savage. Yuck.

As far as the lady with the book club-she is an icon all by herself. I have to agree. SF doesnt have an Oprah.

Is she enough to tip the scales---I dunno.

Haha I normally like listening to his Radio Station, Savage Nation, the guy goes on a long rant everyday.

Valid, but this would be a more compelling argument if these media outlets were not so specific to one particular part of the population.

80% of Americans cannot participate in Miami media because they don't
speak spanish.

On the other hand, Oprah is beamed in all languages around the world, and YouTube is available to anyone with a computer.

Not counting NYC (news/finance), LA (tv/movies), or DC (politics), is there any other place in the US that is of equal importance to nearly 20% of the total population? I don't think there is, which is the whole point of this thread: what are the cities that come after NYC, LA, and DC? I think in some ways even Atlanta has a larger media presence than either SF or Chi due to its influence on African American culture.

Yes, all good points.

But imo transcending all subcultures is more important than catering to just one.

Oprah definitely does that. YouTube definitely does that.

Any Miami tv programs do that? I dunno.

New York
Los Angeles
DC
Chicago
San Francisco
Miami
Boston

Hows that?

Pretty good. Except Charlotte should be number 1. LOL! Nah but for real, Atlanta, Las Vegas, perhaps even Phily could be up there as well.
