To tell you the truth, the question asked by the OP is very open. "FOOD" lol that could mean anything. If it was "city with the most unique food" then New Orleans would win, but "city with the most variety of food" between these 2 cities LA would win.
What other kind of food is New Orleans known for besides cajun?
What kind of food is LA known for at all? When I think of L.A. food isn't one of the first things I think of. LA might have more 5 star restaurants and expensive stuff. But that's due to the fact that it's a HUGE city so it's only logical you will find a lot of famous restaurants. But none of it is gonna have the soul of New Orleans' food. Food wise LA has no identity, N.O. does. As another poster said, fancy isn't always better.

Basically I'm basing my opinion off the fact that since LA has more diversity there would be more variety in food.
Oh wow,
Can't answer this one. I will say though, that if you come to NOLA looking for Cajun food that you will not be getting close to the best since NOLA isn't a Cajun city. Hell, if you eat Cajun in New Orleans then more than likely you're in a tourist trap. The Creole on the other hand is in a league of it's own.
Outside of Creole and bad Cajun, you can find Italian/Sicilian, Vietnamese, various types Central and South American, various Caribbean, Mediterranean, etc. I'm quite sure it doesn't match L.A. simply because of the diversity level of SoCal, but I think that Creole and Italian would probbably be better in N.O.
I'm just gonna say that Los Angeles would win in terms of the amount of foods that can be found (some will even argue freshness), but New Orleans has it's own distinct cuisine which kind of gives it a title of it's own and beats the hell out if fusion cuisine.
NO is known for food. I think LA has some great trendy restaurants, but for me pound for pound... I would gain a lot of weight in NO. NO food is amazing. LA seems like a larger version of food that you can find in any major city. NO has food and flavor that can't be found anywhere, but NO. I vote for the NO
