I could tell they were Kawasaki before seeing the mention in the article. They have the same look as the NYC R160s and R188s and the PATH PA5 cars that Kawasaki has manufactured recently, but with WMATA's seating configuration.

True and I think Kawasaki makes some of the nicest subway cars around. They have a way of making simplicity look modern and high tech. They are easily the best looking of the NYC rail cars. However I think DC's version looks a lot better.
