I like the standing room for this. The seats look a little bit less comfortable though and I'm glad there is no carpet on the floor. I wonder if the lighting with be that light blue like some cars are now on Metro. I only see those once in a while.
Also, yeah, DC trains are smoother than Chicago trains and NYC trains.
Have not ridden them, but MARTA is smoother than Chicago and NYC trains. BART trains are also fairly smooth, especially at high speeds where stations are spaced further apart in the East Bay (Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek area).
I found BART to be disgusting. I know it's improved quite a bit, but BART was one of the few transit systems where I felt afraid to sit down. Largely because of the gross cloth seats. There was an odor too.
From the outside, BART looked alright. I actually like the sound of BART trains. It's higher pitched to me. Maybe I'm hearing things. I did ride one BART train during my last SF trip that had Vinyl seats. Definitely an improvement. I suppose more are vinyl now. I'll find out when I'm back in SF next month.
I voted METRO in D.C. I think they look the nicest. They're the most uniform and they look the best. I also like METRO's stations as well. Very cool looking.
I like NYC's newer minimalist interiors. There may be science that says otherwise, but the they look as if you could douse the entire car with bleach and hose it out really quickly. It's definitely got to be easier to clean.
And although it's not in the U.S., Montreal has the smoothest, quietest subway in North America.
I love my city, but I wouldn't come even close to saying Boston has great looking subway cars.
Miami-Dade reaffirmed its selection of Ansaldo Breda, and in November 2012, approved the $313 million purchase of 136 new Metrorail cars from the latter. Miami-Dade issued the notice to proceed the following month, with the cars expected to be delivered starting in 2015.
