Most things are very similar, but in a larger city, you have more options. For example, when I lived in Raleigh, I had to drive across town to get to the Asian market. As far as I know, it was one of the only options at that time (without having to drive outside of Raleigh).
In the city where I live in the DFW metro, there are three Asian markets within a 15 minute drive from work or home.
My commute from work to home is about 4 miles. In those 4 miles, I see a Lebanese, Greek, Italian, Jamaican, Vietnamese, and several Mexican restaurants. I also pass a middle eastern and French bakery. In smaller cities like Raleigh (small being compared to DFW and Houston), your options may be limited to one or two places.
This makes it super easy to drop by these places on the way home, instead of having to wait til Saturday to drive 45min to get to the Indian market. So basically, the larger the city, the more diverse the area, and the more options you have.
DFW is a weird feeling area. The city doesn't have a large city feel to it because it's so sprawled out. However, when you look at the offerings, you realize that the offerings are pretty great.
