to each their own i guess, i could give a rats ass about half this stuff nyc doesn't have, salmon fishing? wind surfing? save it. i hate laid back stuff, fun in the sun stuff, etc etc..
ny definitely is smooth with a good sense of humor though.
doesn't mean i don't travel or haven't done these things, or do them from time to time, but certainly wouldn't want to live there.
i didn't say anything about laid back "stuff" or fun in the sun. i mean laid back people who don't take themselves to seriously and can appreciate other ideals and lifestyles outside their own. most new yorkers i've met can't seem to do that
and no, in my opinion, new york doesn't have a good sense of humor. it's very dry and awkward

I certainly see the appeal, it just isn't for me. I'd rather live in a shoebox studio in NYC than a mcmansion in the middle of nowhere.
yeah, because down here we all live in one of those
Expensive beyond means.
Rude.
Crowded.
Polluted.
Trashy.
Large percentage of the population who live and die there and never see other parts of the country.
Never want to live there myself (visiting is just fine). The quality of life unless you are rich is abysmal. Really sad.
NYC people think they are the center of the universe, and they are WRONG.

thats odd because most of us grow up around ideals and lifestyles outside of our own.
and this is the same place with a christopher st (for example) and a billion foreigners...

i guess i worded that wrong, but the sad thing is it seems like many new yorkers are so quick to embrace foreigners and their cultures, and are just as quick to look down their noses at their own american brethren...and what's worse, have the nerve to refer to the rest of the u.s. as "fly over country"
truth be told, i'm sure most posters here have no real problem with the city of new york, it's just the blatant arrogance of some of its residents that people are sick and tired of
As a native New Yorker, I must say it's fascinating in a strange way to see my fellow Americans jumping at the chance to trash my hometown.
This has made me realize there's something else New York City hasn't got (and thankfully): all those other people.
Good one
Walking around manhattan yesterday made me realise that this is a city that will constantly surprise you so when non residents talk negative about it, i laugh. I get a kick out of it personally
