Gary and the rest of Northwest Indiana are very much a part of Chicago's suburbia. They eat dish pizza, root for The Bears, listen to our radio stations, watch the same TV stations as us and even keep the same Time Zone as us (unlike the rest of Indiana). And although it's across the state line, Gary is actually closer to the city than Joliet or Naperville. As a southsider, I actually identify more with the Northwest region of Indiana than I do the North or West suburbs in Illinois..
I was thinking the same thing when I read Dementor's post.. But nonetheless, if someone from California wants to associate Gary, Indiana with the south suburbs of Chicago, I'm not gonna bother arguing with them. Close enough.
I was being sarcastic because the title says "Chicago", not "Chicagoland."
we're born with donkey balls out here. Something about the climate causes it, and we automatically believe we're better than the Midwest in particular. We declared this decades ago, as you've noted. But the reason isn't pulled out of our a$$es, its pulled from our scrotal region.
Nice sarcasm..

Yeah....bayareanightmare....way to keep it classy and represent San Francisco in such a bright light... seems a little frustrated that Chicago is winning. I mean polls don't even matter, but still you get some loser that can't take defeat.
Another thing, bayareanightmare, why would you laugh at an American city losing the Olympics bid? What kind've BS is that....there are some really stupid people representing this country...
must suck living in illinois..surrounded by wisconsin...ooh lala..indiana *gasp*...how fun!!
the Bay's weather alone absolutely destroys any competition from Chicland...and all you people saying "ohhhh cost of living bla bla bla..." who cares..sorry your broke midwesterner mind cant earn enough money to live in a place like Californias coast ...theres a reason chicalnd is so cheap compared to The Bay
Apparently people in CA can't afford to live there either.

Chicago vs San Franciso, Oakland, Richmond, ETC I've been trying to figure out which one I would live in.
Which one is better one it comes down to affordability, night life, and diversity.
And really, which one would you rather live in?
I prefer not to bicker so I'm simply going to address the OP's criteria.
Affordability: clearly Chicago, SF is one of the most expensive cities and regions for a reason.
Night Life: Tie, because neither is a Tier I city in terms of nightlife in the NYC, Vegas, Miami mold. However, you will find more than enough to do if you have friends and know where to go.
Diversity: it's gotta be SF, all data that I've seen from Lifeshadower and others point to this. It's not like it's a runaway, but if you have to choose one, it's SF.
Which would you rather live it: for me it's easy, SF becaue of the mild weather. Extreme weather wreaks havoc on my sensitive skin and fragile health. I love the combination of nature, mountains near near the ocean, with freshwater streaming into a bay. All this plus you get a top 5 city in terms of urbanity. I've also decided to embrace my inner geek and thus love living near the epicenter of new media and technology. SF's ideal, at least for me.
