I don't know how much actual grocery shopping was going on (maybe that happens outside of lunch hour) but it has to be the busiest carry-out/eat-in lunch place downtown. Wonderful to see so many Gen-Xers and Millenials on the downtown streets.
The success of the Strongsville/Giant Eagle market district and the idea to turn a grocery store into much more than a food shopping experience has really rubbed off I see.

Strongsville, Cuyahoga Falls, and Solon have really stepped it up with the introduction of the market district and with downtown Cleveland catching on and implementing it also, it's a win win. Catering, cooking classes, curbside express, espresso bar, wines and beers on tap....what an offering!

The Heinen's Ameritrust Rotunda operation isn't well designed. When I was there over a month ago, they had one, hard-to-use microwave. I wasn't there at a busy time, and still had to wait five minutes and had trouble warming up the entrees that I had purchased. Heinen's needs to refine its operation soon, or they'll lose a lot of repeat business. The problem is that Heinen's assumed everybody would take out purchased entrees and not eat it there; they should have known better.

The soup was incredibly expensive. I haven't tried the grill yet. I'm not anxious to go back.

All I can say is the place was crowded and the cash registers were busy. I bought a half pound of cheese and it was maybe 10% over what I'm used to paying.

Prepared foods at Heinen's in general are "expensive" relative to some other places. The quality is generally very good. You get what you pay for. I've shopped at the downtown locations 3-4 times now and really didn't notice much of a difference in cost (maybe 5-10% on some items). Maybe it just isn't for you, WR.

You missed my point, guys. If you buy prepared foods and want to eat them there, they aren't prepared for it. There was only one microwave and it was tricky to use, and you had to wait in line. My memory is that it doesn't rotate and there were no trays (I could be wrong on both counts). Heinen's thought of everything, except accommodating persons who might want to buy prepared foods and eat them there. Obviously, if you buy grilled items or soup, there's no problem.

With all of the restaurants in the area, there are many other options for a meal, even a quick one.

I've eaten there twice and would prefer several of the options at the Fifth St. Arcades, such as Barrio.

Museum teams unearth 4,000-year-old home in Sheffield ( photos,video) | cleveland.com

I found this to be noteworthy as well. Should be interesting to see.

I really did enjoy my sandwich from Heinen's (almost like a Teriyaki Burrito), but at same time also understand what WRNative is saying. I also quite enjoy Barrio as well, though my only time trying it was inside the stadium, which is quite a bit more expensive, next time, I'll probably go to the Arcade location instead.
