Tommy Moore's in New Bern has shut its doors.

A place is going to reopen this summer, with a new owner, also named Moore, no relation, but from the Smithfiled's family! Small BBQ world, I guess.

Time will tell. Word on the street is that the new place will be more slanted toward "fast food" rather than the ol skool nature of Tommy's.

At least they plan to continue cooking in the smoke house with wood. Hoping for the best.

Not familiar with Tommy Moore's. But as long as the new owners plan to keep cooking with wood, more power to 'em!

Same restaurant and owner as the "Moore's Olde Tyme Barbeque Chicken & Seafood" in Winterville- I believe. Moore's Olde Tyme Barbeque | BQQ Chicken & Seafood Restaurant | Delivery | Catering | Pickup | Winterville, NC 28590

You should certainly try their food. It is amazing!!! Yes, it is more of a "fast food" type restaurant. You order at the counter and take a seat. Once your food is prepared, they walk to your table to serve your meal. They have workers that assist you as you eat, if you need any refills or assistance. So, no you don't really have a waitress or waiter- but I really like the way it operates. Real bbq joints shouldn't be so formal in my opinion anyway.

I think the one here in Winterville has also taken some notes from the local Chick-Fil-A. They have the most genuinely nice staff and sincerely seem to appreciate your business. I have never tried Tommy Moore's but have spoken to a few who have tried both... so far they all liked Winterville's Bbq better... Its subjective, i know. But i promise, its not bad news for New Bern Bbq fans..

We relocated out of state due to my husband's job, but will be returning to Winterville this week for a visit. The first thing we are doing when we come into town is going to Moore's BBQ. I miss it. The chicken is delicious. My husband has been told that the owner's are related to the family of Smithfield Chicken in Knightdale. Give them a try you won't be disappointed.

According to Tommy Moore, Tommy sold the other Mr Moore that name. The Olde Tyme bit is what the New Bern Restaurant was called, formerly.

I am hoping it turns out ok, some pretty positive comments give me hope!
