As much of an Ohio State fan as I am, I don't see them as national championship-caliber this season, especially on defense.

Wow! So many realists here... Its almost depressing.

I agree that the best case senario is probably 14-0 Rose bowl champs with everyone debating whether they should have been in the National Championship game (In all honesty, probably not) after wards.
But I must admit that if they look really solid till December, with Miller and the D showing improvements. I couldnt help but want to see them tested against the best in the country.

Remember the last 2 BCS championship games that OSU played in?
so do the voters ! that hurts them, a lot!

Same for Oklahoma, most voters don't trust that they would actually put up a decent game.

Regardless.. as long as there are only 2 undefeated teams and OSU is one of them, they will get in! Let it play out!

At this point, it looks like Ohio State will need some loses by Oregon, Alabama, or Florida State to get a shot at the National Title. Apart from their last game at Michigan, they don't have anything big coming up.

Imagine the reaction if Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, and Florida State all ended the season undefeated?

If that happened, it would really set the table beautifully for next year's playoffs. The main flaw is that one of the 4 is likely to lose the NC game.

I'd be willing to forgive OSU for their past failures in BCS games - that's history.

The problem for OSU is that their conference, BIG, is as weak as it's ever been in recent years. Voters can only assume that winning the BIG isn't such a big deal (no pun intended). And yeah, OSU's defense leaves a lot of questions. I think any of the top three teams would have a fairly easy time with O-state.

Huh? Ohio State is tied with USC for the most BCS bowl game wins at 6. Ohio State's record in BCS Bowl games is 6-3, which is certainly respectable.

BCS all-time records by school

The post you were replying to was replying to a post discussing BCS title games. 2002 was glorious enough, but the last two of those they appeared in didn't turn out so well for the Buckeyes.

I didn't feel as bad about those performances after watching Notre Dame in the last title game.

Well, Notre Dame had zero business being in that game. Two dozen teams would have played Alabama a better game. A handful had a pretty good chance of beating them.

Ohio State's big issue right now isn't with Ohio State. It's with the conference. The Big10 or whatever it is is waaaay down and needs a fix fast.
