BU is a fine school academically. Here is a list of BU's rankings both nationally and internationally. The finance and business programs are well regarded.

Agreed. Advice - ignore bias / prejudices / jealousies / out-dated information / unsubstantiated opinion as fact. People must do their own research once reliable sources are given.

BU is a perfectly respectable school. Boston is a great city.

I have always associated NYU as an arts/film school. In particular seeing as how they have (or had?) the premier film program/school in the Nation.

Yes. It's a respectable school. However, there are many smaller liberal arts colleges where one can obtain a better education. I think the education at BU is fairly impersonal and on the level with many good state universities. But, a lot more expensive.

And yes, Boston is a great city for college aged students.

Go to college outside of Boston and take a bus into the city on the weekend.

Given the choice, I'd avoid BU and Northeastern for my children.

As an undergraduate I looked at BU as a possible safety school. That was all it was, back then. I did not like the fact that it was in a city with no cohesive campus.
I applied as a safety school, but did not need to attend.

BU gets it's huge pool of applicants from it's geography.

BU is a fine school. It is in a great city.

Please don't insult top public institutions (UCLA, UCBerkley, UMich) in comparing BU to them.

Cheerfully admit my biases (Two degrees from Michigan, finished residency from there as well), but Michigan is a top 3 school in both amount of academic research published, top 1-2 in Federal research grants, and #9 in overall endowment (9.7 billion). Choose a ranking system, BU is not in the same stratosphere.

Boston U. is everyone's tier 2 safety school in case the Ivys won't admit them. Nobody who goes to the place is stupid; a few unethical ones in the bunch but nobody's quantitatively challenged. Massachusetts's NYU.

Ugliest campus physical plant in the universe.
