Our daughter is getting ready to apply to college and my wife is a Lutheran and so is she. I have not heard of many of these colleges. She really likes St. Olaf and Witenberg.

I'm not a Lutheran.

Also, do any have Fashion, Interior Design or Merchandising? Her secondary major would be Math or Accounting and I know that most colleges have those majors.

A little back story. Our daughter is Asian, has good SATS and a 3.75 average. She in liberal politically.

Thanks.

St. Olaf is rated very high for it's math program. I don't think they have a fashion merchandising major however. Hopefully she decides against that anyway--not a lucrative field right now . Luther in Decorah, IA is another top Lutheran school she may want to consider. St. Olaf isn't what I would call liberal but Northfield is and Carleton College in Northfield is VERY liberal.

My daughter went to St. Olaf. While one might not call it "liberal" like Carleton, it is certainly NOT conservative.

You can look up the rankings on any ranking site.

I highly doubt any Lutheran schools offer Fashion programs.

However, since you guys are moving to Ohio, you should really check out Kent State. They have the best fashion programs outside LA and NYC.

It is a very conservative school. Your daughter might not have been part of the conservative crowd but the majority of the school is very conservative. Being that the school is right down the road from us, I spend quite a bit of time on campus....it's a conservative school....

Right. She went there, you didn't, yet you know better.

One of my kids graduated from Roanoke College in VA, the second oldest Lutheran College and I know a few kids that are attending or graduated from Gettysburg, the oldest one. Neither of them are known for being conservative. I don't know the liberal/conservative bent of the ones you are asking about.

She did? She is looking into Roanoke! We are visiting in the Spring. Salem seems like a very quaint town.

I am not into the Fashion Merchandising for her. If she loves retail, I'd prefer that she open it up to Retail Marketing, so that it's not limited.

ELCA is not a conservative faith. If the school is religious, that does not mean conservative.

The Concordia colleges - are run by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod are conservative, in line with their faith.

Valparaiso University is Lutheran - both types and is more conservative than the ELCA run schools.

Roanoke is a nice little campus, emphasis on little. It was on the short list, probably second choice for my son but what changed his mind was the small size of the department he was interested in, economics. He found out there were changes coming and didn't want to go through that. Now, that was YEARS ago so do talk to the people when you visit. They have no fashion merchandising and only an concentration of marketing in their business department so look carefully at the programs when visiting there, or anywhere.
